Gratitude Wednesday: Why Joy Is Terrifying
I think it’s safe to say that I’m currently in the throes of a little crush on Brené Brown.
I have been watching her Ted Talk on repeat and today I got stuck into some YouTube clips of her on Oprah’s “Super Soul Sunday”.
I think what I like most about her is how she translates her data into really hard-hitting but ultimately beautiful “take home messages” that just make sense.
It’s like she takes psychological concepts and serves them up in bite sized portions that anyone and everyone can digest.
Because today is Gratitude Wednesday I thought I would share this clip with you.
It is about gratitude and joy. Most importantly, she speaks about how joy is in actual fact the most terrifying emotion. We are scared to feel joy because we are scared of loss. We fear that if we lean into the moments of joy then we are opening ourselves up to getting hurt when that moment ends or when that which brings us joy gets taken away.
But we’re not going to out-maneuver vulnerability this way. And the only way to really feel joy is to practice gratitude.
I’m going to leave you with the these beautiful words that were sent to me from The Universe today:
“Love where you’ve been.
Love where you’re at.
Love how you think.
Love the power you pack.
Love all that you seek.
Love all that you feel.
Love your rocking emotions.
And the thoughts you make real. ”
