Today marks the third week of Gratitude Wednesdays. It might be a silly initiative for some, but I believe we can all use a healthy dose of gratitude and optimism every now and again.

Today I am grateful for a number of things:

1) THE MONTH OF APRIL IN SOUTH AFRICA!!!

Wow, so many public holidays! Shout out to the county that does April best!

2) It’s the national elections in one week. I’m excited to exercise my right to vote. Just over a hundred years ago, I would not have been able to do so. And just over twenty years ago, the majority of this country could not vote.

There are still other countries today who silence certain sections of their population and I am grateful that South Africa has one of the most liberal constitutions in the world!

3) On that note, I am grateful that I live in a progressive country that acknowledges and celebrates people’s differences. Let’s hope that we will never bring in archaic laws that persecute people for who they are and who they love.
